Package Design

The redesigned packaging for Anna’s Ginger Thins explores the intersection of nostalgia and fantasy, targeting Generation X roleplaying game enthusiasts. Drawing inspiration from medieval manuscripts and historical Books of Hours, the design incorporates intricate elements to evoke a sense of storytelling, ritual, and immersive world-building.

How was this created?

The largest challenge in this project was defining the unconventional target audience. The process began with researching Generation X and identifying their interests, followed by exploring how those insights could connect to roleplaying game culture and inform the design direction.

The next step was creating the dieline to serve as the foundation for the design. This involved deconstructing the original packaging to measuring its dimensions and understanding how the folds and connections functioned. After recreating the dieline in Adobe Illustrator, I began sketching initial concepts, ultimately choosing to follow the direction established in the third moodboard.
After developing several drafts, I finalized a direction inspired by the visual style of Books of Hours. This concept was implemented through a window feature paired with a patterned exterior, drawing influence from traditional Scandinavian folk art motifs.
Displayed on the right is the final draft, which underwent minor refinements to better align elements within the window areas and enhance the emphasis on the floral motifs, which is seen in the final product.
